BACOLOD City – Personnel from the City Health Office (CHO) have not administered to anyone the controversial dengue vaccine Dengvaxia, according to Medical Officer IV Grace Tan, head of the Environmental Sanitation Division of the CHO.
This is because the city is not included in the Department of Health’s (DOH) dengue immunization program, Tan added.
The DOH ordered to put hold the vaccination program which administers to patients the Dengvaxia vaccine, which is linked to an elevated risk of severe disease developing from a subsequent dengue infection among those who were not exposed to the dengue virus.
Dengvaxia, according to its manufacturer French pharmaceutical company Sanofi Pasteur, works as expected in people already exposed to the virus.
Tan said there is an ongoing probe into the effects of the vaccine conducted by the DOH, the World Health Organization and other key stakeholders.
According to Tan, if there are persons who were vaccinated using Dengvaxia by private doctors in the city, they must complete their dosages.
“This should be completed for three shots,” Tan said.
For his part, Mayor Evelio Leonardia encouraged those who have been vaccinated to come to the CHO and ask for advice.
CHO data showed that as of Nov. 25, there were 1,714 dengue cases recorded in the city. Out of this number, the CHO already recorded 13 deaths./PN
