BACOLOD City – What postponement?
The barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) elections this year will go on – unless Congress moves to postpone it – City Election Officer Mavil Sia stressed.
Sia was clarifying information that there will be no elections come Oct. 23.
“Who said that? That’s not true – for now,” she stressed.
Upon the instruction of its central office, the local Commission on Elections (Comelec) office continues to prepare for the polls, Sia said.
She stressed that the elections will get postponed only if Congress passes a bill on the postponement and the president signs it into law before election time.
Currently the city Comelec is working with the City Treasurer’s Office with regard to the availability of ballot boxes. Sia said they want to make sure they have sufficient ballot boxes come the manual polls.
They have also cleaned their voters’ lists. Bacolod has around 843 clustered precincts for regular and SK voters, she added.
Filing of certificates of candidacy shall be from Sept. 23 to 30, the Comelec calendar of activities showed. Election period will be from Sept. 23 to Oct. 30, while the campaign period is from Oct. 13 to Oct. 21.
Bacolod has 291,801 regular voters and 93,139 SK voters, Comelec data showed./PN
