BACOLOD City – City Administrator Atty. Mark Mayo is urging the public not to tolerate garbage collectors who solicit donations during the holiday season.
This came after several netizens complained on social media about garbage collectors distributing solicitation letters to households and business establishments.
Atty. Mayo said the matter has reached his office, with reports alleging that some personnel under the Bacolod Environment and Natural Resources Office (BENRO), as well as paleros of IPM-Construction and Development Corporation (IPM-CDC), the city’s contracted garbage hauler, were involved in the distribution of the solicitation letters.
Speaking on behalf of Mayor Greg Gasataya, Mayo emphasized that while the city encourages generosity during Christmas, BENRO personnel and IPM-CDC paleros are strictly prohibited from asking donations from the public.
“You have to do your job without expecting anything in return,” Mayo reminded the garbage collectors.
He also appealed to residents, saying, “Gaayo man ta sa mga pumuluyo nga indi naton ina pagtolerate nga maghatag sa ila.”
Mayo advised the public to report incidents in which collectors refuse to collect garbage if no donation is given, assuring that the city will take appropriate action.
He stressed that any BENRO personnel, particularly job order workers assigned to garbage collection, will be terminated if found engaging in solicitation. For paleros under IPM-CDC, the city will recommend proper disciplinary action to the private firm./PN
