BACOLOD City – Friday last week’s torrential rain was “overwhelming”, according to City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) officer Aaron Bai.

The CDRRMO automated rain gauge in Barangay Alangilan recorded a total cumulated rainfall volume of 102 millimeters from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Bais said this was equivalent to three days of rainfall.

Friday’s rain was made worse by the high tide, Bai added, resulting to flashfloods.

“The heavy rainfall became overwhelming for everyone to cope with,” said Bai.

The CDRRMO issued warnings to 61 barangays, which in turn alerted their quick response teams.

In coordination with the Department of Education, some schools were prepared as evacuation centers.

CDRRMO also made available its vehicles for free rides to those stranded due to the rain.

Meanwhile, Cong. Greg Gasataya urged the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) Bacolod City Engineering District to check the drainage projects along national roads, streets of Lacson and Araneta, Circumferential Road, Bangga Cory, and others.

He also asked DPWH City District engineer Abraham Villareal to check flood walls as well as major outfalls in various rivers./PN
