BACOLOD City – Police in this city are giving particular attention to robberies.
All 10 stations under the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) will regularly put up checkpoints to easily net suspects, according to Councilor Caesar Distrito.
Distrito authored a resolution urging the BCPO and the barangays governments to campaign more aggressively against theft and robbery. The Sangguniang Panlungsod approved it on Wednesday.
Meeting with him and Mayor Evelio Leonardia, the BCPO head Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky also promised to increase police visibility and crack down on holdup, vehicle theft and akyat-bahay suspects, said Distrito.
Force multipliers were also tapped in addition to the 100 officers newly assigned at the BCPO, Wanky told them, Distrito said.
According to the councilor, the “recurring” incidents of theft, robbery and akyat-bahay have become a “pressing issue.”
Distrito cited several measures the authorities may employ, including “aggressive” investigation, recruitment of volunteers, filing charges against suspects, and the use of undercover and civilian assets.
A “proper and strong coordination” between the police, the barangay, and other peace and order agencies” is necessary, he said./PN
