BACOLOD City – Cybersex-related incidents put this city under the watchful eyes of the Philippine National Police (PNP).
Bacolod is a “place of interest,” according to Superintendent Maria Shiela Portento, Operation Management Division head of the PNP Women and Children Protection Center.
Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky, acting director of the Bacolod City Police Office, said such incidents have become “alarming.”
In May, police rescued three girls from their mother who made one of them perform in an online “live sex show” for an Australian.
Another operation in the same month led to the arrest of a mother who pimped her daughter to a customer from the United States.
A week after this, an American was arrested after uploading sex videos of him with multiple partners online.
In the latest operation, a 2-year-old boy and a woman were saved from a suspected cybersex den in Barangay 26 on July 13.
Dealing with cybercrimes entails special training and equipment for the police, Wanky said.
“I have made a request to establish an anti-cybercrime field office here through the Police Regional Office 18 to deal with these cases,” he said.
Cooperation from the community — especially from barangay councils, Department of Social Welfare and Development, police’s Women and Children Protection Desk, and schools — is also necessary, said Wanky.
Meanwhile, Councilor Caesar Distrito said he will “study if there is a need to strengthen our ordinances against such illegal activities.”
Distrito is the chairman of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on laws, ordinances and good government.
Barangay officials may be tapped in monitoring and gathering information on suspected cybersex dens and activities, he added./PN
