Bacolod councilor mulls streetlights vs crimes

BACOLOD City – City councilor Al Victor Espino wants the entire city lighted up, from major thoroughfares to barangay streets, as an anti-crime measure during nighttime.

Espino said he authored a resolution that was passed to the city council last week requesting the City Engineer’s Office to install streetlights on all local and barangay roads that do not have one, and to replace those that are no longer functioning.

“The  installation  of  streetlights  can  also  be  considered  as  a measure  to  prevent  crimes  as  criminals  are  usually  hesitant  to  commit  crimes  on area that are well lighted because they can be easily identified or recognized,” he said.

He added that the installation  of  streetlights  to  both  local  and  barangay roads benefits the general welfare of the city ,  as this is one of the way to  prevent or ease crimes and accidents./PN
