BACOLOD City — The city officially opened its 2nd Pet Festival, a three-day celebration from April 8 to 10 aimed at promoting responsible pet ownership, animal health, and community engagement among pet lovers.
The festival features a range of activities led by the City Veterinary Office (CVO), highlighted by a free rabies vaccination drive scheduled on April 8–9, 2026, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the SM City Bacolod Atrium, where the opening ceremony was held on Wednesday.
The event was led by Mayor Greg Gasataya, together with CVO officials and members of the City Council.
Assistant City Veterinarian Dr. Janine Sarthou emphasized the importance of vaccination in protecting both pets and the public from rabies, while encouraging owners to take a proactive role in animal care.
The service is exclusive to city residents, with pets required to be at least three months old. However, Sarthou said walk-in participants from outside the city may still be accommodated.
Adding color to the festival is the much-anticipated Pet Fashion Show, where cats and dogs take center stage in creative “Summer Vibes” outfits.
The event is open to pets that are at least four months old, fully vaccinated, and in good health. Organizers reminded participants to keep their pets on a leash and ensure their safety and comfort throughout the activity.
According to Sarthou, the festival goes beyond entertainment, serving as a platform to strengthen awareness and support for animal welfare. She expressed optimism that the event will continue to grow and attract more participants in the coming years.
The festival also includes a free spay and neuter (kapon) program, primarily intended for Bacolod-based pets.
Mayor Gasataya emphasized that the initiative reflects the city’s commitment to animal welfare, noting that the festival is not just a program but a demonstration of care and support for animals.
