BACOLOD City – The city government launched its first Animal Welfare Summit at the Bacolod City Government Center grounds yesterday, Aug. 29.
Themed “Making Bacolod A Friendly and Safe Haven for Pets, Stray, and Pet Lovers Alike”, the activity kicked off with a motorcade followed by a program organized by the Bacolod City Animal Welfare Task Force.
Pet owners availed themselves of services that includeD free spay and neuter for pre-registered pets, free anti-rabies vaccination and basic dog obedience training, among others.
There were also discussions on responsible pet ownership, basic animal rights and importance of spaying and neutering.
The summit advocated responsible pet ownership and addressed the issue on the increasing number of stray dogs in Bacolod, said Executive Assistant Ernesto Pineda, head of the City Mayor’s Office-Sectoral Concerns.
Co-organizing the weekend event were the City Veterinary Office, City Health Office, City Engineer’s Office, Bacolod City Police Office, and Public Information Office, in partnership with the private sector including the BACH Project Ph and PAWSsion Project PH./PN
