BACOLOD City — Bacolod City has recorded two new confirmed cases of African swine fever (ASF), including the first case in Barangay Alangilan, bringing the city’s total confirmed cases to 10 in five barangays.
The City Veterinary Office (CVO) confirmed the new cases on August 13, 2026, after hog samples collected from Barangays Alijis and Alangilan tested positive for ASF in both initial and confirmatory laboratory examinations.
CVO Assistant Head Dr. Janine Sarthou said the Alangilan case was the first reported case in the barangay, while the latest case in Alijis brought the barangay’s total to three.
Based on the CVO’s barangay breakdown, Alijis has the highest number of confirmed cases with three, followed by Taculing and Bata with two cases each. Granada, Handumanan slaughterhouse, and Alangilan have one case each.
Sarthou said the CVO is intensifying surveillance and monitoring efforts in affected and nearby areas to prevent further transmission of the highly contagious disease.
She urged hog raisers to strengthen biosecurity measures, maintain proper sanitation, and immediately report unusual signs of illness or deaths among pigs.
Barangay officials, farmers and other stakeholders were also urged to remain vigilant and cooperate with veterinary authorities in containing the disease.
Earlier, the city government issued guidelines for the prevention, control and containment of ASF in Bacolod following reports of the disease in several areas of Negros Occidental.
The guidelines aim to protect hog raisers, vendors, consumers, food security and the local swine industry from the threat posed by ASF.
Sarthou stressed that continued vigilance and strict compliance with biosecurity protocols are crucial in preventing the further spread of the disease and protecting the livelihoods of local hog raisers.
