ILOILO City – The government’s Kadiwa ng Pangulo (KNP) program generated more than P50 million in sales from January to May 2026, providing 120 farmers and fisherfolk in Western Visayas with direct access to consumers while serving 125,476 households across the region.
The Department of Agriculture (DA) Region 6 said the sales performance underscored the program’s expanding role in strengthening farmers’ incomes, supporting sustainable livelihoods and making fresh and nutritious food more affordable to consumers.
KNP shortens the farm-to-market chain by allowing local agricultural producers to sell their goods directly to households and institutional buyers. This enables producers to earn higher returns while offering consumers products at lower prices.
The initiative advances the government’s advocacy, “Buy Lokal, Support Lokal.”
Aside from household consumers, KNP has reached institutional buyers such as the Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection Region 6, and state universities and colleges.
The program has also partnered with the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), Department of Trade and Industry, Department of Social Welfare and Development, Department of the Interior and Local Government, Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources, National Irrigation Administration, and Guimaras Electric Cooperative.
Regular KNP events conducted from February to May generated P993,884 in sales and benefited 2,454 households. Thirty-four producers from Iloilo and Capiz participated in these activities.
Meanwhile, KNP activities conducted in partnership with DOLE’s Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers program generated P1,844,984, according to Rhea Cristina Resol, officer-in-charge and chief of the DA-6 Agribusiness and Marketing Assistance Division.
These joint activities involved 69 producers and served 3,357 families across Western Visayas.
The DA-6 said KNP’s broad marketing network gives farmers and fisherfolk more opportunities to sell their products directly, strengthens regional food security and ensures consumers have consistent access to affordable, fresh and nutritious produce. /PN
