BACOLOD City –More people have died of dengue in this city and Negros Occidental.
There were 11 fatalities here and 22 in the province, records showed.
All the 11 deaths here were recorded within just three months (July 2 to Sept. 12), the City Health Office(CHO) said. They included:
* a four-year-old boy from Barangay Villamonte, who died on July 2
* six-year-old girl, Barangay 10, July 22
* three-year-old boy, Barangay Bata, July 27
* two-year-old boy, Barangay Bata, July 28
* three-year-old girl, Barangay Singcang, July 31
* two-year-old boy, Barangay Bata, Aug. 6
* 10-year-old boy, Barangay 35, Aug. 12
* six-year-old girl, Barangay Singcang, Aug. 24
* six-year-old girl, Barangay Bata, Sept. 8
* nine-year-old girl, Barangay Estefania, Sept. 12
* 14-year-old boy, Barangay 16, Sept. 12
The CHO is still verifying another reported dengue-caused death.
A total of 1,025 dengue cases were recorded here from Jan. 1 to Sept. 12 — 174.8-percent higher than the 373 cases in the same period in 2015.
Most-affected barangays include Mansilingan, with 47 cases; Bata and Estefania, 38 each; Taculing, 37; Villamonte, 32; Singcang, 27; Alijis, 22; Mandalagan, 18; Tangub, 17; and Sum-ag, 14.
In Negros Occidental, of the 22 deaths from Jan. 1 to Sept. 17, three were from Sagay and Talisay cities, and two from Bago City, Hinoba-an, La Carlota City, San Carlos City, and Silay City.
EB Magalona, Hinigaran, La Castellana, Moises Padilla, and Murcia towns and Sipalay City had one death each.
Cases were also up 189 percent to 4,326 this year from 1,499 in 2015.
Silay City remained to have the highest number of cases with 448, followed by Talisay City, 408, and Bago City, 334.
Cases in other areas are as follows: Himamaylan City, 319; Cauayan, 296; Kabankalan City, 290; Isabela, 230; La Carlota City, 187; San Carlos City, 163; Sagay City, 143; Hinoba-an, 128; Binalbagan, 118; Sipalay City, 111;
Hinigaran, 104; Pontevedra, 98; Murcia, 96; Victorias City, 96; EB Magalona, 95; Valladolid, 89; Ilog, 80; Moises Padilla, 64; Calatrava, 63; San Enrique, 61;
Cadiz City, 60; Manapla, 60; Escalante City, 42; La Castellana, 39; Salvador Benedicto, 38; Pulupandan, 25; Candoni, 24; and Toboso, 17.
In both Bacolod City and Negros Occidental, majority of the cases belonged to the 11 to 20 years old and the 1 to 10 years old age groups, records showed./PN
