BACOLOD City – The city government has qualified 762 ambulant vendors for official identification cards as part of the enforcement of City Ordinance No. 1009, which aims to regulate street vending within the city limits.
This initiative excludes vendors inside public city markets who possess established business locations and requisite permits.
Under the ordinance, ambulant vendors are allotted a designated area of one square meter each, complete with identification cards and QR-coded stalls to streamline management and regulation.
City Administrator Lucille Gelvolea said these vendors are now officially recognized under the ordinance following a comprehensive mapping conducted by city officials.
The issuance of IDs, managed by the City Administrator’s Office, requires vendors to meet all necessary requirements, including health clearances for those selling food items.
The drive to regulate street vendors is also part of a broader effort to clear sidewalks and other public areas of unaccredited vendors, who have been identified as contributors to traffic congestion due to illegal vending activities.
The ordinance further stipulates that all vendors, whether registered or ambulant, comply with local laws and regulations concerning health, sanitation, public safety, and environmental management. This includes maintaining cleanliness at vending sites and ensuring that their operations do not obstruct pedestrian and vehicular traffic.
