BACOLOD City – Local businesses here face a new mandate from the Office of the Building Official (OBO), which requires the display of both building permits and certificates of annual inspection.
OBO head Engineer Isidro Sun announced that failure to comply with this regulation will result in a fine of P5,000, as stipulated under the National Building Code.
Engineer Sun emphasized the importance of visibly posting the building permit number and the approval date on the premises to avoid penalties.
He also stressed the necessity for business establishments to display their certificate of annual inspection prominently to facilitate easy verification during city inspections.
According to Sun, numerous certificates of annual inspection remain unclaimed at the OBO, amounting to hundreds that have not been picked up by business owners.
He urged proprietors to retrieve these documents promptly to aid in compliance checks and to prevent fines for non-display.
The OBO head also acknowledged the current backlog in issuing these certificates, attributing the delay to the extensive inspection processes required, which take approximately two months.
This delay, Sun noted, might deter businesses from claiming their certificates, under the mistaken belief that their existing business permits suffice./PN
