BACOLOD City – The Bacolod Traffic Authority (BTAO) is strictly implementing City Ordinance 388, Series of 2003, which regulates traffic, parking, towing and other transport or commuting activities in the city.
The ordinance also establishes the routine system of public utility vehicles and trucks, and redefining the loading and unloading zones here.
This came after City Administrator John Orola has directed BTAO head Police Superintendent Luisito Acebuche to strictly implement traffic laws in Bacolod City particularly against the entry of tricycles and trisikads in major thoroughfares and national roads.
Orola said BTAO should intensify its campaign against trisikads and tricycles, especially those plying the Circumferential Road, and Mandalagan and Araneta streets, and motorcycle riders who do not wear crash helmets and those with modified mufflers.
Existing traffic laws should be imposed since they have been receiving complaints from motorists against tricycles and trisikads that they claim are major causes of traffic, while those driving motorcycles with modified mufflers cause disturbance, especially during nighttime, he said.
Acebuche said that after he received Orola’s instruction on Tuesday, the BTAO immediately conducted an operation on colorum tricycles in Barangay Handumanan.
About 17 colorum tricycles have been apprehended by the BTAO on Tuesday in the barangay.
The operation is still ongoing, Acebuche said, adding that violators are fined P1,700.
KARAOKE SESSIONS
Meanwhile, Orola said the city has an existing ordinance regulating karaoke operations due to numerous complaints.
He said he will ask the City Permits Division to stop the issuance of permits to karaoke operators if they do not observe the proper operation time.
On the other hand, he is also recommending the apprehension of vandals who create graffiti on public and private walls.
He further urged the Department of Education through school principals and the barangays to be vigilant against these vandals.
