BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved on first reading the proposed Bacolod run ordinance.
The measure, “Bacolod run, creating the Bacolod Run Council, defining its functions and responsibilities and appropriating the funds”, was proposed in recognizing the growing community of runners in this city.
“The city government aims to promote a healthy and physically-active community,” said Councilor Em Ang, the author of the ordinance.
The city government sees the great benefits of organizing an annual marathon. Cities that host annual marathon events enjoy a boost in the local economy, particularly hotels, restaurants, and retail stores, due to the influx of visitors who either spectate or participate in such events, stated the ordinance.
The aforementioned Bacolod Run Council, meanwhile, will be composed of the city mayor as the chairperson, vice chairperson – chairperson of the SP committee on youth and sports development; and members would be the chairpersons of the SP’s committees on health and tourism, City tourism officer, local economic development and investment promotions officer, city legal officer, city budget officer, city treasurer, three representatives from running clubs or organizations, and others as may deem necessary.
The council’s functions and responsibilities for the Bacolod Run are to plan, organize, and implement; to set the date, route, and schedule; to determine the categories and prizes; and to secure necessary permits and licenses./PN
