Bacolod shootings concern biz group

BACOLOD City – The business community in this city has expressed concern over the rampant shooting incidents here.

Since the start of the year, there have been at least six shooting incidents recorded, mostly involving “riding-in-tandem” gunmen.

Frank Carbon, executive officer of the Metro Bacolod Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MBCCI), said they have set a meeting with the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) today to discuss the incidents’ impact on the economy.

“The killings should not be treated as ordinary incidents or isolated cases,” the businessman stressed.

MBCCI would also convene city officials.

Carbon said he would suggest putting up lights on some streets here to “decrease the possibility of crimes.”

Several killings here have remained unsolved for years. Most of the victims were allegedly involved in illegal drug activities.

Lieutenant Colonel Ma. Liberty Indiape, spokesperson of the BCPO, said they already directed the city’s police chiefs to heighten police visibility and presence, intensify police operations and maximize efforts to solve cases./PN
