BACOLOD City – Lone District Representative Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has formally sought clarification from the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) over the sharp increase in overnight parking fees at the Bacolod–Silay Airport in Silay City, Negros Occidental.
In a letter dated February 9 addressed to CAAP Director General Raul L. Del Rosario, Benitez inquired about the basis and applicable guidelines for the implementation of the P600 overnight parking rate, which has drawn complaints from residents, travelers, and tourism stakeholders.
The lawmaker’s letter was issued in view of Resolution No. 53, Series of 2026, passed by the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod on January 14. The resolution urged Benitez to intervene and look into concerns regarding what the council described as an exorbitant increase in parking fees at the airport.
Benitez requested CAAP to explain the rationale behind the rate adjustment and clarify whether measures are being considered to address mounting concerns over the fee’s impact on airport accessibility and convenience.
The overnight parking rate reportedly increased from P200 to P600 beginning January this year, surprising many airport users.
Bacolod City Councilor Homer Bais pointed out that while improvements have been made to the airport terminal, the parking facility remains an open-air area without covered spaces or additional amenities.
In his letter, Benitez expressed hope for a prompt and favorable response from CAAP, emphasizing the importance of transparency and ensuring that airport policies remain fair and responsive to public needs.
The move signals a coordinated effort between the city government and its congressional representative to seek accountability and protect the interests of Bacolodnons and travelers using the airport.
Aside from Resolution No. 53, the City Council earlier approved another resolution seeking a dialogue with CAAP and other concerned agencies.
