Bacolod SP pushes energy-saving measures amid rising power, fuel costs

BACOLOD City — The Sangguniang Panlungsod of Bacolod City is urging barangays, businesses, and the private sector to adopt energy conservation and efficiency measures amid rising fuel prices and electricity costs.

The call came after the City Council approved a resolution authored by Councilor Atty. Caesar Z. Distrito, encouraging collective action at the local level in response to what officials described as an ongoing national energy emergency and oil crisis.

The measure aligns with national government efforts to promote responsible energy use and cushion the economic impact of tightening energy supply, which continues to strain households and businesses.

Distrito emphasized that addressing the energy challenge requires broad participation across sectors, noting that conservation efforts at the community level can yield meaningful results.

“Simple, practical measures—such as using energy-efficient lighting, properly managing electrical equipment, and maximizing natural ventilation—can significantly reduce consumption,” Distrito said.

“If widely adopted, these can translate into substantial savings for families and businesses while supporting energy security and environmental protection,” he added.

The resolution also underscores the role of barangays in leading grassroots initiatives, particularly through public information campaigns and by demonstrating energy-efficient practices within their communities.

Anchored on Republic Act No. 11285, or the Energy Efficiency and Conservation Act, the measure reinforces Bacolod City’s commitment to sustainability and resilience amid global energy challenges.

Distrito called for immediate and coordinated action, urging all sectors to support the initiative.

“This is a timely and necessary response,” he said. “By working together, we can ease the burden on our constituents and help secure a more sustainable energy future for Bacolod.”/PN
