BACOLOD City – The Sangguniang Panlungsod passed a resolution requesting the Philippine National Police (PNP), National Bureau of Investigation(NBI), Criminal Investigation and Detection Group(CIDG), and Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) to form a task force to solve and prevent heinous crimes in the city.
Councilor Carlos Jose Lopez, author of the resolution, cited the series of fatal shooting incidents that have remained unsolved. He said there must be a thorough investigation.
Just this Feb. 13, Nathan Zerrudo of Iloilo City was found dead with multiple gunshot wounds in Purok Rose, Barangay Cabug.
Two days after, Patrolman Eric Alcosaba, an AWOL (absent without official leave) cop was shot on Burgos-Circumferential Road.
The unidentified assailants fled using a van.
The Zerrudo and Alcosaba killings were the latest in a series of recent shootings involving gunmen either on motorcycles or cars.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia believed the killings were part of the drug war.
“If you have nothing to do with illegal drugs, then you have nothing to worry. But we don’t condone the killings,” said Leonardia.
He ordered Bacolod City police director Police Colonel Henry Biñas to maximize police visibility in the field./PN
