PUERTO PRINCESA City, Palawan – With a 76-66 win over Mandaue yesterday at the Palawan State University Gym, Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts salvaged a bronze medal finish in the Batang Pinoy National Finals 2019 boys basketball.

Thomas Pillado top-scored with 24 points. Nathan Jundana added 16 markers while Heinz Gabriel Demisana had double-double 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Thunderbolts has been dominant since the start and led by as much as 13 points in the fourth period. Mandaue attempted to come close but could only trim the deficit to 10 points.


The Dexter Dy-mentored Thunderbolts failed to reach the championship round after suffering a 79-66 defeat in the hands of eventual champions Dasmariñas, Cavite during the semifinal round on Friday afternoon.


Also part of the Thunderbolts team were Rafael Albert Ledesma, Mike Lebron Estelloso, Christian James Juguan, Adrielle Vince Binguan, Johanan Raymond Castiller, Dylan Benedict Despi, Marvin delos Santos, and Joshua Farahmir Dignadice.


Meanwhile, the Iloilo City girls basketball selection reached the gold medal round of the girls basketball following an 81-74 domination over Davao team in the semifinals round on late Friday.


Keena Teruel and Heart Antoniano provided the spark offensively for the Aaron Blanca-mentored Ilonggas on their way to setting up a championship match with Cagayan de Oro later Saturday.


In the girls volleyball, St. John’s Institute-Negros Occidental finished the competition at fourth place after losing to Davao del Norte in the battle-for-third. The Negrenses has earlier lost to Antipolo in the semifinals./PN
