BACOLOD City – Bacolod Tay Tung High School stamped its class as the tournament’s undisputed powerhouse after sweeping University of St. La Salle-B, 26-24, 25-16, to capture the Kolasa Cup Spikefest championship on Sunday at The Hangar here.
The Thunderbolts overcame a stiff challenge in the opening set before completely taking control in the second frame, sealing the title in straight sets to complete an impressive championship run.
Leading the charge was Mhegan Ordaniel, who delivered another standout performance in the finals to earn the tournament’s Most Valuable Player award. She also emerged as the Best Outside Hitter, underscoring her pivotal role in Bacolod Tay Tung’s title campaign.
The Thunderbolts also dominated the individual honors as Rayne Dela Cruz was named Best Setter, while Andrea Chua claimed the Best Middle Blocker award.
The championship-winning roster was composed of Rayne Dela Cruz, Samantha Valenciano, Andrea Chua, Dubhe Medina, Princess Audess, Cleo Palabrica, Mhegan Ordaniel, Madison Garcia, Elexie Resonte, and Andrea Lim.
Head coach Ian Macariola, assisted by Gersan Banzuela, steered the Thunderbolts through an unbeaten and disciplined campaign that culminated in another championship trophy.
Bacolod Tay Tung showcased consistency throughout the tournament, combining disciplined defense with a balanced offensive attack to outplay its opponents from start to finish.
The title run also highlighted the Thunderbolts’ depth, with several players stepping up in crucial moments and contributing to the team’s success.
