BACOLOD City – The holiday spirit is set to shine brighter this year as the city government unveils a first-of-its-kind Christmas Projection Animation Display at the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) grounds.
The projection show launches tonight, December 13, and will run until December 16. The BCGC façade will serve as a giant canvas illuminated with lights and colors through a spectacular 10-minute animated projection, repeating every 30 minutes from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
Mayor Greg Gasataya said the city’s new initiative is perfect for families, friends, and anyone wishing to experience the magic of the Christmas season “in a fresh and memorable way.”
Councilor Jason Villarosa, chairperson of the Sangguniang Panlungsod committee on tourism, said that a coordination meeting was earlier held with the City Tourism Office, STI–West Negros University, Megaworld Upper East, and other key departments to finalize preparations for what is expected to become Bacolod’s newest Christmas tradition.
Festivities will officially begin this afternoon, with the Festival of Lights Parade starting at 5 p.m. at Megaworld Upper East and proceeding toward the BCGC. The parade will feature lighted floats, costumed performers, dancers, and community groups showcasing their brightest holiday-themed presentations.
The festival is being implemented under City Ordinance No. 868, Series of 2018, as amended by CO No. 1011-2022.
Villarosa said a special Christmas program will follow at the BCGC grounds at 7 p.m., coinciding with the launch of the animated projection display.
Mayor Gasataya emphasized that the goal is to celebrate Christmas “stronger together,” offering something vibrant, unique, and reflective of Bacolod’s festive spirit.
He added that this year’s celebration marks the beginning of a new annual Christmas tradition for the city.
