BACOLOD City — The Bacolod City Health Office (CHO) will roll out its annual “Operation Tuli” while reiterating food safety reminders, particularly on seafood consumption, as part of efforts to promote community health and safety.
The city’s free circumcision program, locally known as “Operation Tuli,” is scheduled from April 13 to May 18, offering safe and accessible services to qualified residents.
The initiative forms part of the city’s preventive healthcare program aimed at reducing the risk of infections among young boys and promoting proper hygiene.
The CHO advised interested participants to visit their nearest Barangay Health Station (BHS) for screening and scheduling. Only those with confirmed appointments will be accommodated to ensure an orderly and efficient process.
Meanwhile, the health office emphasized the importance of food safety, noting that prevention remains the most effective defense against foodborne illnesses.
“Prevention is the best medicine—and in food safety, it saves lives,” the advisory said.
Residents were urged to observe the following guidelines:
* Cook seafood thoroughly, ensuring an internal temperature of at least 63°C;
* Check fish doneness by making sure it is opaque and flakes easily with a fork;
* Avoid eating raw or undercooked seafood, which may contain harmful bacteria and toxins;
* Be aware that some toxins are heat-resistant, making it important to limit consumption of seafood from high-risk or contaminated areas, especially for vulnerable individuals;
* Buy seafood only from approved and reliable sources to reduce the risk of contamination.
The CHO also encouraged the public to stay informed about food safety issues, particularly in areas prone to contamination, to help ensure safer dietary choices.
