BACOLODNON Mylene Pura displayed her strength after topping the 18 hours category of the Iloilo City Charter Day Endurance Run 2017 at the Iloilo Esplanade.
Pura, who was from the University of St. La Salle-Bacolod, bested her rivals Angelo Kauffman of Pavia, Iloilo and Dyay Fernandez of Jaro, Iloilo City in the race that started at 4 a.m. and ended at 10 p.m. on Sunday.
Margarito Villagracia of Iloilo ruled the 6 hours contest, defeating Freud Aubrey Agarrado of Mandurriao, Iloilo City and Graciela Pequena of Antique province. Five others were unable to finish the race.
Alvin Salcepuedes of Oton, Iloilo was the overall champion of the 3 hours category. Trailing behind were Ernie Cober of Cabatuan, Iloilo and Sherlock Estilloro of La Paz, Iloilo City.
Rommel Castro, head of the Sports Development Division of the Iloilo City government, said that Charter Day Endurance Run was aimed at promoting distance running and endurance running in Iloilo City.
“Our idea of the Iloilo City Charter Day Endurance Run came from the Ultra Marathon Run,” Castro told Panay News. “This race was a challenge to our Ilonggo runners on how many kilometers they can conquer.”/PN
