BACOLOD CITY – This city’s operation against illegal electric bicycles (e-bikes) and electric tricycles (e-trikes) is extended until next month.
Mayor Alfredo Abelardo Benitez has ordered the Bacolod City Traffic Authority Office (BTAO) to intensify the crackdown on e-bikes and e-trikes operating without the necessary permits to ensure the safety of the riding public.
Last week, the city mayor said that village chiefs in the city have submitted the list of e-bikes operating in their respective barangays, together with their tariff and routes.
The move aims to regulate e-bikes and e-trikes in the city following the Department of Interior and Local Government’s (DILG) Memorandum Circular (MC) 2020-036, which prohibits tricycles, pedicabs, and motorized pedicabs from operating on national highways.
Data from BTAO showed that there are 15,000 e-bikes and e-trikes operating in the city./PN
