ANTIQUE – The Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO) of Antique is monitoring the water levels of rivers across the province.
Early on Monday morning, May 27, PDRRMO teams conducted thorough assessments of the rivers in various locations, including Ilaures, Bugasong; Ypayo at Poblacion, Patnongon; and Solong, Sibalom, to evaluate potential flooding risks.
The PDRRMO is maintaining a close watch on Typhoon Aghon’s progression, updating weather conditions every two hours and getting ready for possible adverse impacts.
The office is not only focused on river levels but is also monitoring the Hamtic to Iloilo route, which is susceptible to landslides.
As of this writing, there have been no reports of evacuations or landslides. However, local residents are urged to stay alert and follow any advisories issued by local authorities.
The PDRRMO is working in coordination with Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) and other agencies to guarantee a rapid response if the situation deteriorates.
With the province now under blue alert, all municipal and barangay emergency operations centers (EOC) have been activated.
Aghon is the first tropical cyclone to hit the region this year.
Broderick Train, PDRRM officer, is advising residents near mountain slopes and in low-lying and flood-prone areas to take necessary precautionary measures to safeguard lives and properties./PN
