BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) assured students and the riding public that they are ready to secure them during the opening of classes on June 5 and 6 while a transport strike is being conducted.
BCPO acting director Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky said the BCPO will maximize police visibility in schools for the “Balik Eswela.”
He assured that the opening of classes will not hamper the security of the riding public.
Wanky revealed that in line with their security measures during the “Balik Eskwela,” they will provide police assistance desks in every school. They will also distribute flyers containing safety tips for students and parents.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Rodolfo Castil Jr., acting director of Negros Occidental Provincial Police Office, said he has already instructed all police stations under his command to provide vehicles for stranded commuters.
Superintendent Luisito Acebuche, head of the Bacolod Traffic Authority Office, assured the public that they have nothing to worry about because the BTAO is there to assist them whatever problem may arise.
BTAO will deploy several traffic enforcers in schools and in the rally site, Acebuche said.
Department of Education-Negros Island Region director Gilbert Sadsad, on the other hand, confirmed that classes will go on despite of the planned transport strike.
Mayor Evelio Leonardia made the announcement after a meeting with different government agencies.
Leonardia said that based on their assessment, the transport strike would neither be so massive nor paralyzing to merit the suspension of classes.
“Maybe to a certain extent, the transport strike can cause some inconveniences to the riding public, but not to the degree that it would be necessary to suspend classes,” the mayor said.
Only the United Drivers Operators Center confirmed that they will join the two-day transport strike. The Federation of Bacolod City Drivers Association and Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators ng Negros announced that they will not participate./PN
