BACOLOD City — The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) warned that it will strictly enforce its zero-tolerance policy against individuals or establishments selling illegal or imported firecrackers and pyrotechnics during the holiday season.
BCPO director Colonel Joeresty Coronica reiterated that the sale of imported firecrackers and pyrotechnic devices is prohibited.
“Wala kita tolerance because we want to support our own local products nga legal,” Coronica stressed, reminding vendors that all items must be sourced legally and sold only in the city’s designated areas.
He emphasized that sellers must ensure their products comply with Republic Act (RA) 7183, the law regulating the sale, manufacture, distribution, and use of firecrackers and other pyrotechnic devices.
RA 7183 specifies the allowable explosive content for firecrackers, bans those exceeding prescribed limits, and prohibits the importation of firecrackers without proper authorization.
Under the law, the following firecrackers are allowed: Baby Rocket, Bawang, Small Triángulo, Pulling String, Paper Caps, and El Diablo.
Meanwhile, the permitted pyrotechnic devices include: Butterfly, Fountain, Judy’s/Huwits, Sparklers, Roman Candle, Skyrocket, Luces, Mabuhay, Trompillo, and Whistle Device.
Prohibited items are Super Lolo, Goodbye Philippines, Goodbye Universe, Atomic Big Triángulo, Piccolo, Large Judas Belt, Large Five-Star, Plapla, Giant Whistle Bomb, and Big Kwitis. Any device containing more than 0.2 grams of explosive powder is also banned.
The BCPO confirmed that Bacolod City does not have local manufacturers of firecrackers or pyrotechnics. All products sold during the holiday season are sourced from outside the city, making strict monitoring essential.
