BACOLOD City – The Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) is taking firm steps to enforce City Ordinance (CO) No. 08-15-742, which strictly prohibits and penalizes illegal drag racing within its jurisdiction, and national laws prohibiting such acts.
This comes after the information BCPO received on three incidents of illegal drag racing as of yesterday, October 1.
Captain Jonito Pastrana, spokesperson for the BCPO, said the illegal drag racing incidents took place along the Bacolod-Negros Occidental Economic Highway between barangays Cabug and Mansilingan and along the Abada-Escay relocation site going to Fortune Town.
“We just want them to know that there are existing laws prohibiting such activity, a drag race. It’s very dangerous; it can cause injury to people and damage to property. If we are to arrest them, we are doing it to enforce the law,” Pastrana said.
Highlighting the city’s ongoing efforts to ensure public safety and uphold traffic laws, CO 08-15-742 aims to curb dangerous and unlawful racing activities on public roads.
Violators of the ordinance will face severe penalties, including fines ranging from P3,000 to P5,000 and imprisonment of up to 60 days, depending on the severity of the offense, according to the BCPO.
It added that vehicles involved in illegal racing may be impounded while repeat offenders may face more severe penalties, including extended imprisonment and higher fines.
The BCPO thus encouraged the public to report any such activities to the authorities to help maintain road safety and protect the general public from the risks associated with this dangerous activity./PN
