WHAT would you like to hear in a tribute for you? Without Miriam Defensor-Santiago, the Senate will never be as alive as an intellectual bunch of “honorables.” So funny at times, so fiery but without doubt, Miriam was oozing with intellectual tirades when triggered.
The news of her passing away created such a feeling of loss, an Ilongga whose voice filled the Senate, an Ilongga unique with her heavy Visayan accent, fearless and exacting, but showed her human vulnerability at times, too.
She claimed she was cheated in an election but she cheated death when she survived Stage 4 cancer. She peacefully passed away in her sleep; as she claimed, “I am ready.”
Madame Senator, your hugot lines will stay with us, your books and your nuggets of wisdom we will treasure. Have your rest now with our Creator, Inday Miriam. You have ran a good race and fought a good fight. You reached full-circle. We will truly miss you.
How many eulogies will be said about you? You were bullied when you were called “Brenda” or “Brain-damaged.” Some people looked at you with disdain but you are what you are, MIRIAM DEFENSOR-SANTIAGO, undoubtedly the pride of the Ilonggos.
Therefore, say now what you want to say to people you love and you admire while they are still here. Send those little notes of appreciation, a touch, a hug, a smile, or even your small tokens just to say, “You are important.” Tell them gently of their flaws and errors. In a box alone, and before the Creator, she or he will not be there anymore.
The voice we want to hear or shun is finally silenced. The figure which we love or hate to see will be out of sight forever. Say your words sincerely NOW and stop to “bully” or “bola” in front of the public and before that box. (delsocorrodaquila@gmail.com/PN)
