CAPIZ – A motorcycle driver was declared dead at the Bailan District Hospital after a collision with a truck in Barangay Cogon, Panitan, around 6:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 11.
“Rio,” 46, of the town’s Barangay Bahit, crashed into a parked truck driven by “Emmanuel,” 24, of Barangay Poblacion in President Roxas town.
Based on an initial investigation by the Panitan Municipal Police Station, the truck originated from Pontevedra and was transporting sugarcane to Passi City.
Emmanuel stopped the truck on the roadside near a restaurant to take a break, during which time the hazard lights were turned on.
However, the driver was shocked by a sudden, loud crash. It was then discovered that Rio’s XYM motorcycle hit the truck.
Due to the impact, the victim sustained fatal head injuries.
Police said Rio came from Maayon town and was on his way home. He allegedly did not notice the truck due to the dark and slippery road conditions.
Panitan’s emergency responders promptly transported the victim to the hospital, but the attending doctor declared the victim dead upon arrival./PN
