ILOILO City – The Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) does not solicit money for anything.
If you’ve been approached by someone claiming to be a PDEA personnel and threatening to have you arrested for illegal drugs if you won’t give in to his demands, he is most likely an impostor, according to Regional Director Wardley Getalla.
PDEA Region 6 recently received a complaint from a woman regarding a brother that men claiming to be PDEA agents were threatening of arrest.
According to the woman, the men told her brother he was in PDEA’s drug watch list and would soon be subjected to an antidrug operation.
“Hindi tayo agad-agad nag-o-operate without validation. Hindi tayo nag-a-arrest ng inosenteng tao,” stressed Getalla.
The director also cautioned businessmen sent with solicitation letters or invitations promising exemption from PDEA’s antidrug operations if they shell out a certain amount.
“I would like to inform the public na ang PDEA ay hindi nagso-solicit ng pera for our Christmas party or any activity. Hindi rin tayo nanghihingi ng pera para hindi tayo mag-conduct ng operations. Wala ganyan sa ating organization,” said Getalla.
In October, President Rodrigo Duterte made PDEA the lead agency in the government’s campaign against illegal drugs. A “big challenge” was how Getalla described this, noting the agency’s not having enough personnel.
“Sana mabigyan tayo ng new recruits from the PDEA Academy para may sapat tayong tao,” said Getalla.
In its official website, PDEA announced it was “hiring committed and highly qualified professionals who have a deep desire to be front liners in the war against illegal drugs.”
A PDEA Drug Enforcement Officer (DEO) has an entry level position of Intelligence Officer 1 and a permanent item with Salary Grade 11.
PDEA is looking for men and women, aged 21 to 35 years old; at least 5’ (female) and 5’2” (male) in height, holder of a Baccalaureate Degree, Career Service Professional Eligible, Board Passer or qualified by the Civil Service Commission under Special Laws.
There will be a qualifying examination, neuropsychiatric test, medical and dental examination and physical fitness test.
Applicants will also undergo background investigation and panel interview.
Once recruited, one will undergo a six-month comprehensive and regimented Drug Enforcement Officer Basic Course training at the PDEA Academy, Camp General Mariano N. Castañeda, Silang, Cavite./PN
