ILOILO City – The Bureau of Fire Protection in the city has warned the public on cheap and substandard cell phone chargers and flashlights as these can cause fire.

In an interview with Panay News, City Fire Marshal Jerry Candido disclosed that they have recorded various instances wherein fires were caused by overheating cell phone chargers and rechargeable flashlights.

“Cell phone chargers and rechargeable flashlights, bought at a cheap price, do not guarantee quality. These can cause fire when they overheat so the public should be cautious enough when buying these things,” he said.

“Kung mag-charge man kamo, indi niyo gid pagpabay-an. Indi dapat mag-charge kung wala tawo. Bantayan niyo gid. Tambay na lang kamo da. Kay kung malipatan ninyo, ma-overheat gid na siya. Maka-cause gid na sunog,” Candido added.

When asked on the major causes of fire in the city, Candido said that as of October this year, 46 percent is caused by electrical in nature. It is followed by unattended cooking, cigarette butts, match sticks and liquefied petroleum gas leakage./PN
