ILOILO City – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in Region 6 stressed that private companies should pay for the uniforms of its employees.

DOLE’s labor advisory No. 11 series of 2014 reiterates “the guiding principle on wages, allowable deductions, the condition for such deductions or cash deposits to answer for loss or damage to tools, materials or equipment supplied by the employer.” It also emphasizes that only private agencies are covered by its rules.

DOLE-6 officer-in-charge regional director Salome Siaton said deductions for company uniforms are unauthorized.

“The labor advisory, dira nag-anchor nga ang company uniform must not be deducted from the employees’ salary,” Siaton noted.

The DOLE-6 chief furthermore revealed that they are assessing companies based on their Labor of Compliance System. This is to ensure that private firms comply with the agency’s rules and regulations.

“Sa payroll makita na nga may deductions … ang illegal deductions are one of the prohibited acts,” said Siaton.

“Things are being looked into during the assessment … gina-lantaw kay may mga payroll nga ga-reflect sa mga deductions sang company from the salary of the employee. If there are deductions in the uniform, gina pa-refund ina sa company,” Siaton added./PN
