ILOILO City – Over 700 bikers joined the “Sikad Kontra Droga” fun ride yesterday as part of the campaign against illegal drugs.
Inspector Sheila Mae Sangrines of the Iloilo City Police Office said this was the sixth leg of the “Sikad Kontra Droga” – a project launched by Chief Superintendent Jose Ginteles, director of the Police Regional Office 6.
“Sikad Kontra Droga” was not a typical bicycle race. Bikers stopped in four barangays of the city and distributed gifts to around 300 poor children. Some 5,000 anti-illegal drug flyers were also circulated.
The stopover barangays were Monica Blumentritt in City Proper, Boulevard in Molo and Sto. Nino Sur in Arevalo.
The fun ride ended in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district where a program was held. It was highlighted by the signing of a “pledge of commitment” by the village chiefs of Bakhaw, Bolilao, Taft North, Calubihan, and Desamparados.
To acknowledge their participation and support, special awards and certificates were given to the oldest and youngest riders or cyclists; rider with the most unique bicycle; and participating cycling club with the most number of riders.
Participants and the barangay council of Bakhaw also shared meals with bare hands through a “boodle fight” held at the barangay’s covered gym.
