BACOLOD City – Mayor Evelio Leonardia will meet with Architect Felino “Jun” Palafox Jr. to discuss urban planning – specifically how to “remake Bacolod 80 years from now.”
Palafox, a world-renowned master urban planner, pitched his vision for the city over a phone call on Dec. 27, Leonardia said.
After doing architecture and urban planning in 39 countries, Palafox will “now help our country.” The architect sees a “very high development potential” in the city.
Palafox believes the “visionary leadership” of Leonardia will help bring further development into fruition.
The architect downplayed the notion that he was saying this because he was the mayor’s “good friend.”
“I think he (Leonardia) has a visionary leadership, he has strong political will, he has a good appreciation on good urban planning, and he seems to have a good appreciation of good design,” said Palafox.
Leonardia said they will meet next year, with the 80th Charter anniversary of the city in mind.
Palafox said they would aim for an “urban renaissance” for Bacolod.
“We could start rethinking, reimagining, re-planning, reengineering re-architecture, remove, reduce, and recycle, redevelop,” he said.
“I think Bacolod could be larger – a Negros Metropolis or Bacolod Metropolis – and I think it could compete with the rest of the world,” said Palafox./PN
