BACOLOD City – Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson led the groundbreaking for the new Biodiversity Conservation and Nature Tourism Center in Sitio Pulakpulakan, Talisay City, Negros Occidental on Friday morning.

The 62-hectare site is currently being eyed as the next Mambukal Resort, as well as a major watershed area of the province.

Once completed, Lacson hinted they may allow tourists to enter for camping and hiking excursions.

At present, however, they have to complete the construction of a road in the area for easier access.

The annual budget for the development of the site is pegged at P90 million, the governor said.

Aside from reforestation efforts, among the amenities that would also be constructed at the property include a multipurpose building made of bamboo, a bamboo treatment facility, a three-storey high watchtower, and a 10-room tourist facility.

The site will also include a laboratory for scientists who will be studying the flora and fauna of the area./PN
