‘Birada Semana’ nets 267 fugitives; 67 drug suspects

ILOILO City – In a weeklong region-wide simultaneous anti-criminality and law enforcement operation dubbed “Birada Semana” from May 23 to 29, the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) arrested 267 wanted persons and 67 drug suspects.

Forty-three of the fugitives arrested were classified as most wanted persons (MWP). They were collared in Iloilo Province (13); Negros Occidental (11); Antique and Bacolod City (six each); Capiz and Iloilo City (three each); and Aklan (one).

The 224 other arrested fugitives were from the following areas:

* Negros Occidental – 118

* Iloilo Province – 57

* Antique – 17

* Aklan – 12

* Bacolod City – eight

* Capiz – five

* Guimaras – four

* Iloilo City – three

Meanwhile, the 67 arrested for illegal drugs were the product of 49 police operations.

They were from Negros Occidental (28), Bacolod City (22), Iloilo City (nine); Iloilo province (five), Guimaras (two), and Capiz (one).

The total recovery reached more or less 385 grams of shabu and 8.3 grams marijuana with a combined value of P2,624,358.
Police Brigadier General Flynn E Dongbo, Western Visayas police director, lauded the dedication and hard work of the police.

“Congratulations at maraming salamat sa inyong sipag at dedikasyon para lang mahuli ang mga taong ito. Ipagpatuloy at paigtingin pa natin ang ating kampanya kontra sa ilegal na droga at wanted persons,” said Dongbo.

He added: “Pangarap po natin na makatulog ng mahimbing ang ating mga kababayan bawat gabi at makagala sa mga kalsada na walang kinatatakutan o pag-alinlangan.”/PN
