ILOILO City – The assistant regional director for administration and spokesperson of the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology 6 (BJMP-6) died of cardiac arrest.
Jail Senior Superintendent Gilbert Peremne was declared dead on arrival Thursday night at the Metro Iloilo Hospital and Medical Center in Jaro district. He was 50.
The BJMP official was the elder brother of Glen Peremne, head of the health and sanitation team in the Iloilo Fish Port Complex who was murdered by unidentified riding-in-tandem suspects on the eve of April 23.
“Sir Gilbert was a very down-to-earth official. Indi gid tikalon,” Jail Superintendent Mary Chanette Espartero, warden of the BJMP Male Dormitory in Barangay Ungka, Jaro, told Panay News.
She said her colleagues and even friends in the media were shocked by his sudden death.
“Mahapos gid ini sia palapitan. Madamo ‘na sia nga mga advise sa amon nga mga tawo nya,” Espartero added.
Peremne was up for promotion to one star general this year.
He was a Criminology graduate and joined the BJMP in 1992. He was promoted to Jail Inspector in 1999 through lateral entry. He also became an instructor at the University of Iloilo.
He had three children – a seafarer, a Police Corporal and his youngest still in school.
“Family-oriented man sia kag pasenyoso katama. Maybe nagtipon na stress nya sa kamatayon sang iya utod,” said Espartero.
