City dad bats for brgy agri committees

ILOILO City – Councilor Lyndon Acap is proposing a committee on agriculture in each of the 180 barangays here.

Under a proposed measure he filed, barangay activities and projects in agriculture shall be included in the annual appropriation plan of the village subject to the approval of the City Budget Office.

Acap’s proposal hurdled first reading and was referred to the Sangguniang Panlungsod’s Committee on Barangay Affairs and the Committee on Agriculture.

“It is imperative to insure that agriculture programs and activities entrusted to agencies and the local government unit can reach the barangay level and given preferential attention,” part of the proposed ordinance read.

To be chaired by the punong barangay, the functions and responsibilities of the committee include consultation and make representation to the City Agriculture Council of the city.

The committee will also be tasked to review project proposals intended for urban development from private individuals or association.

The committee will also serve as project implementer and monitoring arm of the Department of Agriculture./PN
