Blazers trips Pirates in Premier V-League

MANILA – The College of St. Benilde Lady Blazers demolished Lyceum of the Philippines Lady Pirates, 25-19, 25-12, 25-17, in the 2019 PVL Collegiate Conference on Saturday at the San Juan Arena.


Coming off a heartbreaking five-setter defeat to the University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, the Lady Blazers easily disposed its opponent in the first two sets and did the same in the third with a 22-15 edge.

The Lady Pirates made its last stand with Bacolodnon hitter Joan Doguna connecting consecutive points. The Lady Blazers, however, iced the win with a Marites Pablo hit and back-to-back Joan Doguna errors.

Klarisa Abriam top-scored with 12 points, including 10 attacks, while Michelle Gamit and Gayle Pascual added nine and eight markers, respectively.

The Lady Blazers improved to 2-1.


Mycah Go contributed four markers, 10 excellent digs, and five excellent receptions while veteran Jewel Lai tossed 16 excellent sets.

“Happy tayo na we got the win and then nakapag-execute tayo,” said Lady Blazers head coach Jerry Yee. “Aggressive tayo at times, we executed at times but then, ‘yun na nga, we want to be consistent.” Doguna, a former Bacolod Tay Tung High School standout, finished with eight points, all from attacks, while Mary Joy Onofre also had eight markers, on five attacks, two blocks and a service ace for the 0-3 Lady Pirates./PN
