BACOLOD City – There will be “conflict of interest” if the Silay Provincial Hospital Multipurpose Cooperative is allowed to sell medicines at the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, the Sangguniang Panlalawigan of Negros Occidental said.
Vice Gov. Eugenio Jose Lacson said the committee on health “held in abeyance” the cooperative’s proposal.
“We do have a pharmacy at the provincial hospital, so we are not so excited about the proposal,” said Lacson, the presiding officer. “We thought there is a need to further discuss this proposition.”
Sometimes some medicines are unavailable at the hospital’s pharmacy, “so the idea was for the co-op to come in and provide the [lacking] medicines,” Lacson said.
“It’s definitely competing with our pharmacy,” he stressed.
While the cooperative assured they will sell only the unavailable medicines, “the doctors are also members of this co-op, so it’s a little complicated,” he said.
Lacson believes avoiding shortage in medicines is “just a matter of improving the inventory system.”
He said they also asked the Corazon Locsin Montelibano Memorial Regional Hospital here to share with the Teresita L. Jalandoni Provincial Hospital its practices in pharmacy management./PN
