BACOLOD City — Police have launched a full-scale investigation into the killing of a 26-year-old Bacolod resident whose body was found wrapped in plastic and packaging tape in a sugarcane field in Barangay Pacol, Bago City, Negros Occidental, on Thursday, July 2.
The Police Regional Office–Negros Island Region (PRO-NIR) said the victim, identified only by the alias “Mickey,” was discovered at around 10:45 a.m. in Purok Langka beneath a concrete electric post near an irrigation canal after sugar plantation workers traced a foul odor coming from the area.
The workers immediately reported the incident to authorities, prompting personnel of the Bago City Police Station to respond, secure the area, and process the crime scene.
Police said the victim’s identity was confirmed by his siblings and former live-in partner through his tattoos and the clothes he was wearing.
According to the victim’s former partner, he was last seen on June 27 at the Bacolod City Public Plaza, where he allegedly left with several unidentified individuals. He was reported missing before his body was found five days later in Bago City.
Investigators are awaiting the results of the forensic examination to determine the exact cause of death while continuing efforts to establish the circumstances surrounding the killing.
Police said they are reviewing the victim’s recent movements, identifying the people last seen with him, and validating other information that may help identify the perpetrators.
Authorities emphasized that no motive has been established and that all possible angles remain under investigation.
Brig. Gen. Romano V. Cardiño, director of PRO-NIR, assured the public that the case is being treated with urgency.
“We assure the public that this case is being treated with utmost urgency. Our investigators are exhausting all available investigative leads and coordinating with other law enforcement units to identify those responsible. We encourage anyone with relevant information to come forward and assist in the investigation,” Cardiño said.
Police urged anyone with information that could help solve the case to coordinate with the Bago City Police Station or the nearest police station as the investigation continues./PN
