MANILA – A Senate measure seeks the creation of a body that will avert and fight crimes and violence in schools.
All higher education institutions and technical-vocational institutions must form a Crime Prevention Committee, Senate Bill No. 946 stated.
The committee shall formulate a statement of policy on security and access to campus facilities, stated the bill filed by Juan Edgardo Angara.
Local police shall monitor and record criminal activities committed by off-campus student organizations recognized by the institution and count among its members students attending the institution, the bill said.
According to Angara, “there has been a steady increase in the crime rate in campuses all over the country.”
Moreover, the committee shall design policies that encourage accurate and prompt reporting of any criminal activity to the police.
“Students need to know the measures undertaken by their institution, as well as the courses of action in cases of emergency,” the senator said.
The bill also recommended that academic institutions conduct seminars and trainings on the prevention and control of crimes and drugs./PN
