BORACAY – This world-famous island has set a 2.2-million tourist arrival target this year.
This was after it hit its 2-million target in 2017, the highest recorded number of inbound tourist in the island so far, according to the Malay Municipal Tourism Office.
The local government projected a 10-percent increase in the number of tourist arrivals in the island resort this year, or 1.115 million foreign and 1.043 million domestic visitors.
Data from the Malay Municipal Tourism Office showed that Boracay registered a 16-percent increase from 2016’s 1,725,483 tourist arrivals to 2,001,974 tourist arrivals in 2017.
The top three leading tourist markets were China, South Korea and Taiwan, the data futher showed.
Chinese tourists posted 375,284 arrivals in the island in 2017, followed by Koreans with 356,644 and Taiwanese with 40,802. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
