Boracay establishments ‘breaking easement rules’ face demolition

Erring business establishments operating at Bulabog Beach in Barangay Balabag, Malay, Aklan receive a 30 days ultimatum to remove illegal structures, according to Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group general manager Natividad Bernandino.

BORACAY – Around 28 establishments were given demolition notices as the government steps up its crackdown operation for coastal easement rule violators at Bulabog Beach in Barangay Balabag, Malay, Aklan

The business owners of the erring establishments were given a 30 days ultimatum to remove illegal structures, said Boracay Inter-Agency Rehabilitation Management Group general manager Natividad Bernandino.

Malapit na nating malinis ang front beach. Nangahalati na tayo sa isang resort sa Balabag plaza ang pag-demolish ng structures,” said Bernandino.

The task force identified 10 establishments encroaching the shoreline easement zone of the famous main beach. They were given 15-day ultimatum to voluntarily demolish the structures.

The rehabilitation plan in Boracay is ongoing along with the efforts to solve environment-related problems on sanitation, pollution, garbage, traffic, sewerage, and waste, Bernandino said.

Many establishments are still violating road easements in the main road that are within the 12-meter easement rule, he added.

Bernandino stressed the taskforce will forcibly remove illegal structures of the establishments that will not comply with the given ultimatum.

Bulabog beach is the best-known spot for kiteboarding, watersports and windsurfing. The back beach hideaway is located in the east side of Boracay Island. (With a report from Akean Forum/PN)
