MALAY, Aklan – The president of the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)-Boracay called on the different sectors for the preservation of moral values among Filipino children in Boracay Island.

PCCI-Boracay president Elena Brugger said the call was necessary after the controversy of a Taiwanese female tourist wearing only a “microkini,” in the island which recently went viral over social media.

Brugger added that while they respect the culture of different races coming to Boracay, foreign tourists should also do the same to Filipino culture.

“But even the photo of the Taiwanese wearing string went viral, I already saw Filipino children adapting the way of life in Boracay. This resort island is considered a holiday destination and what Filipino children see are the side of a good life, drinking liquors, easy go lucky attitude. These traits can now be easily seen among millennials in this resort island,” Brugger said.

“Filipino kids in Boracay are now influenced by the diversity of culture. The traditional cultures of hard work, love of nature and respectfulness, among others are slowly diminishing,” she added.

According to the world Atlas, the social beliefs and customs practiced in the Philippines are primarily influenced by religion and the demographics of the region where they are practiced. The traditional customs of the indigenous Filipinos are based on the beliefs of the Austronesian inhabitants of the Philippines.

Brugger, meanwhile, said the PCCI-Boracay recently gave away food packs for parents and their children who were affected of the fire incident last week./PN
