Boy, 8, fatally hit by ambulance

BACOLOD City – A tragic incident resulted in an eight-year-old child’s untimely death in Negros Occidental.

The boy was hit by an ambulance on the National Highway in Barangay Rizal, Silay City, on the night of Dec. 24.

The ambulance driver was identified as Mark Anthony Rubi, a 42-year-old resident of Hinobaan town who was from Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital.

Major Rhea Sarah Villanueva, Deputy Chief of Police of Silay City, said the vehicle was transporting a critically ill patient to Riverside Medical Center in Bacolod City at the time of the incident.

The eight-year-old suffered head injuries and was initially brought to a hospital in Silay City before being immediately transferred to Riverside Medical Center.

He succumbed to his injuries at 11 a.m. on Christmas Day, Dec. 25.

The victim’s family has conducted initial discussions with both the driver and the hospital authorities. However, according to Villanueva, no final decision has been reached regarding the matter.

Rubi is currently detained at the custodial facility of the Silay City Police Station. (With report from Aksyon Radyo Bacolod)/PN
