ILOILO City – A barangay councilman in Desamparados, Jaro surrendered to the authorities a firearm with a nearly expired license.
The 34-year-old Russel Jablo turned over his .45 pistol and two magazines to San Isidro barangay captain Felix Doreza.
Doreza in turn handed the items to Chief Inspector Ruel Firmo, Jaro police chief, around 10 a.m. yesterday.
The firearm’s license expires on Oct. 29.
Doreza claimed Jablo went into hiding after this brother Carcar was shot to death.
“Hambal niya indi sia makadiretso (kay Firmo) kay nagapanago sia,” Doreza said in a radio interview.
Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot the 27-year-old Carcar, who was tending to his roasted chicken business on Oct. 8.
He had multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the Iloilo Mission Hospital in Jaro.
According to Doreza, Jablo told him he was just keeping his firearm in their house.
“Kon sige panago niya, pag-abot Oct. 29, ma-expire lang (ang lisensya). Indi niya ma-renew kay gapanago sia,” said Doreza.
Jablo was a brother-in-law of Desamparados barangay captain Noemi Jablo.
Early this week the Iloilo City Police Office increased visibility in Desamparados.
“We don’t want the same incident to happen again,” the director Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso said of Carcar’s shooting.
Firmo said he will turn over the gun to the Police Regional Office 6’s Firearms, Explosives, Security Service Agency, and Guards Supervisory Section when its license expires./PN
